Global Abilities Fury

The USQRA is looking for sponsors for the 2017-2018 Season

Please contact the 2nd Vice-President for information about becoming a sponsor

On Saturday, February 13th the Global Abilities Fury hosted a wheelchair rugby scrimmage sponsored by the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD. Aside from the Fury, those who attended were members of the Maryland Mayhem wheelchair rugby team, the Loyola University Men's rugby team, members of the L-T Vipers Youth Rugby Team, students from the Towson University Occupational Therapy program, employees from Kennedy Krieger, as well as friends, family, and members of the local community.

It was a fun day of playing wheelchair rugby that consisted of head-to-head matches between able-bodied (AB's)participants and wheelchair rugby players. For many of the 40 plus participants who attended the event, it was their first time being exposed to wheelchair rugby. As the day progressed, so did the excitement and level of competition between the AB's and veteran wheelchair rugby player participants. They were given a firsthand experience of what it takes to play our sport and gained new appreciation for us as athletes.

We not only used this event to engage the local community in an entertaining atmosphere, but also to educate and expose wheelchair rugby to some who may become active in the sport. Members of Loyola University's Men's Rugby Team expressed interest in volunteering with our team and at future events. Also, a player from the L-T Vipers Youth Rugby Team played a significant role in planning and running the event as part of a project for his bar mitzvah, in which he recruited other members from his youth team as volunteers.

At the end of the day, we were successful in creating a fun, entertaining, and educational event for all who participated. We received great feedback from everyone who attended and many requests to hold another similar event. We would like to thank the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Loyola University's Men's Rugby Team, the L-T Vipers Youth Rugby Team, the Maryland Mayhem, Towson University's Occupational Therapy program, our incredible support staff, and everyone who came out and showed their interest in our sport.
