The Cats are Back!
The University of Arizona Wildcats are back after a complete overhaul of their roster. The new team is composed of predominantly student athletes. They are led by head coach Bryan Barten and newly appointed assistant coach Pete (The Chief) Padilla. With 11 new players, the team has spent the 2011/12 season getting in shape and learning to work together. They have had a hand full of wins so far and have been very competitive in many games this season.
The U of A program has also hosted two camps in the past year. One for disabled vets and one for college bound athletes. Both events where held on the U of A campus and sponsored by the U of A Adaptive Athletics Program. This program has been a longtime supporter of disabled athletes and is home to 5 competitive teams including wheelchair rugby, tennis, men’s and women’s basketball and track. The program offers scholarships and world class training facilities for student athletes. For more information, please visit their site at:
The team is currently preparing for the 2012 Heartland Sectionals on March 16-18 in Carbondale, IL. This will be the Cat’s first time playing in the Heartland Sectionals and they are looking forward to competing against new teams.
The Cats are led by team captain and new freshman, Chelsea Falnes (2.5) from Waukesha, WI. Other standouts include Brant Daye (1.0) from Durham, NC; Eric Baker (2.0) from Merced, CA and Nate Miller (3.0) from Burlington, WI. Anyone interested in joining the Wildcats and becoming a student athlete is encouraged to contact head coach Bryan Barten at
