Utah Scorpions Dominate Vegas Vengeance 2012
Quad Rugby of Southern Nevada, in conjunction with the Las Vegas Sin City Skulls, and co-host the Denver Harlequins held the Vegas Vengeance 2012 Quad Rugby Tournament on January 27, 28, & 29, 2012 at Dula Gym in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The teams in attendance were the Utah Scorpions, the North-Cal Quake, the New York Warriors, the Canadian “Leftovers”, the Denver Harlequins, and the Las Vegas team, the Sin City Skulls. These six teams were ready for a great weekend of steel smashing rugby action. Each team played two games on Friday and Saturday, and one game on Sunday in a round-robin format.
Utah demonstrated their dominance from the very first game when they handily beat the Leftovers. The Leftovers unfortunately had to forfeit all their games due to illness in their ranks; they participated by temporarily borrowing players from other teams. Both the Harlequins and Quake were ready to play and fought hard in a close game. The Harlequins came out on top by two points. The Warriors brought a fury from the east coast that nobody expected. No one found this out harder than the Skulls when the Warriors beat them 42 to 41.
The Dula Gym’s location in downtown Las Vegas proved to be an unexpected surprise to the teams. The location provided a convenient and easy ten-minute push between the gym and the hotel. It was nice to have more space and a regulation-sized court on which to play. Las Vegas did itself proud providing 45 volunteers to assist in the smooth running of the tournament.
The team placement is as follows: First Place, Utah Scorpions; Second Place, Denver Harlequins; Third Place, North-Cal Quake; Fourth Place, New York Warriors; Fifth Place, Sin City Skulls; Sixth Place, Canadian Leftovers.
The All-Tournament Team for Vegas Vengeance 2012 is 0.5 Connor Morris, 1.0 Kirt Williams, 1.5 Earl Bowser, 2.0 Levi Bohon, 2.5 Leon Bostick, 3.0 Steve Toyoji, 3.5 Garrett Hickling, MVP Steve Toyoji, and Sportsmanship Lee Browning.
Quad Rugby of Southern Nevada would like to thank the Denver Harlequins and all of the participating teams, referees, the City of Las Vegas, UroMed, Jon Foster, Pat McCoy, and many volunteers for making this tournament so successful.
