Pterodactyls Sweep First Invitational in Tucson
If you were not at the Pasqua Yaqui Invitational on Jan 13, you really missed out. The Tucson Pterodactyls and the Pasqua Yaqui Tribe hosted a bang up of a tournament. Teams from Portland (Pounders), Utah (Scorpions) Phoenix (Fusion) and Canada’s National Red and Black Teams all tried their best to unseat the Pterodactyls. 15 games over three days produced some great action on the court.
Portland was strong until the end, Canada Red played hard and fast, Phoenix gave it a good shot and Utah gave their all, and Tucson still carried off the beautiful, hand carved Native American trophy for first place. (Carved by Pasqua Yaqui artist David Valenzuela)   Gabe and the Pterodactyls put together a great defense, an unstoppable offense and the heart and soul to play each game to the last buzzer. Chuck Aoki once again took home the trophy for MVP. With unstoppable speed and an unmatched drive, Chuck didn’t stop until he was upside down on the floor, which he was several times!
Throughout the weekend the players treated the spectators to a great show. Many of the spectators were first timers with no idea what to expect. Now those first timers are dedicated fans to the sport of Quadrugby. The skill and speed, and the fierce competition were amazing!
The number one seeded Portland Pounders played strong throughout the tournament, putting together a fast break offense that was hard to shut down. Beaten twice, the Pounders were Tucson’s only real competition once Tucson put away Canada B in overtime. The Pterodactyls raised the roof from the sidelines as well as the game floor.  With Tucson ending undefeated and Canada B with one loss, the Pounders fell to third with the loss to Tucson.
All the teams and all the players competed from the first whistle Friday at 9am to the last Sunday at 1pm. Thanks to all the teams and players for a great weekend of rugby.  Official scores and class awards can be found at:
Next up Phoenix Rave Feb 3-5, 201!  Portland and Phoenix are gonna be looking for payback!
