16th Annual Andy Beck Tournament

November 6th & 7th, 2010
San Antonio Parks & Rec Adaptive Sports

Written by:Donovan Fikes

The 16 Annual Andy Beck Tournament provided by the San Antonio Parks and Rec Adaptive Sports Program was a great success because of Tina Tholl and all the volunteers. Four teams from Texas competed in the two days in several close and fiercely competitive games.

The Dallas Cowboys, still developing into a cohesive team and gaining valuable experience, placed fourth.  The Houston Texans dealing with roster changes this year played to a one point loss to the Stampede.  Team leader Gilmer played short handed, in a tight game against San Antonio, to take third place.
The home-town team, San Antonio Ruff Ryders, were without key players due to medical injuries.  The Ruff Ryders rallied together to take care of Houston to get to the Championship game-- for a rematch of a tight loss to the Stampede from the previous day.
After a quick start SA had too many unforced errors to hold on and finished second.
The Stampede with the addition of four new players are looking to become a national power-house once again.  In all their games, Coach Gumbert's attention to all the small things enabled them to handle everything the competition threw at them.  The Stampede's composure allowed them to come from behind in two tight games against the Texans and Ruff Ryders to take the top spot in the long running Andy Beck Tournament.
Spencer Larimore, of Dallas, was given the honorable Andy Beck Spirit Award in respect of the tournament's name sake.
The SA Ruff Ryders and all the competitors wish to thank the SA Parks & Rec Adaptive Sports Department, Tina Tholl, Joe Martinez, the refs, and all the volunteers for making this weekend possible and a great success.
