TAMPA, FL—March 24, 2010—For the first time in the competitive wheelchair rugby’s 30-year history, the United States Quad Rugby Association [USQRA] is offering multi-camera coverage of its National Championships online with a live webcast feed provided and produced by Tampa Digital Studios, a full service web and television broadcast production company.
Tampa Digital is announcing today that it is teaming up with USQRA to deliver a live webcast of three semi-final and two division championship games on April 17 – 18, 2010, from the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, AL. The complete championship webcast schedule is below and available at
“This is big!,” exclaimed Ed Hooper, president, USQRA. “We are excited for the opportunity to show our sport about ability and competitive fire to the world. It is the first step in expressing live action across a vast medium, such as the Internet, the spirit of our great athletes, their humanity, and the intensity of our game.”
The live webcast production will include multiple camera coverage that is being fed to a video player linked to the USQRA website via a “hot button.” The event treatment will also include interviews and play-by-play audio for each semi-final and championship game. The coverage will have unlimited broadband capacity, designed to grow with the number of users logging on and watching the live event throughout the two-day period.

“Smashing Stereotypes One Hit at a Time” is the primary message USQRA is sending out to fans and viewers via the live webcast. Hooper notes that wheelchair rugby “players’ lives – their successes, trials and tribulations on and off the court – are a constant case of “smashing stereotypes.” Some of those stories will be told during the live event.
“We are very excited to be a part of giving quad rugby fans and family a quality live broadcast of the USQRA National Championships using the growing Internet medium,” said Mike McKown, director of broadcast management, Tampa Digital. “This event adds to our strong stable of major sporting events coverage streamed live around the world, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to help USQRA tell its story to a global audience through live images of the players in full contact on the court and the stories and challenges of their lives off the court.”
USQRA is scheduling the live webcast package of the National Championships as follows:
