Northridge Quad Rugby Tournament

by Mike DeYoung

The Northridge Knights and Kings organization held a small tournament at Lake View Terrace, California December 12-13.  The rainy weather was unusual for Southern California that weekend which resulted in more than a few soaked rugby chairs on the court Saturday morning.  This small tournament had three participants: the Northridge Knights, Northridge Kings, and newly formed PossAbilities Crown Rugby.  Royalty seemed to be the theme between the three teams that weekend.

This round-robin tournament started with a 51-41 victory for the Knights over Crown.  After a brief break the Kings and Knights went to battle.  The Kings were victorious with a 54-27 win.  The last game of the day resulted in the Kings defeat over Crown with a final score of 57-43.

With the mandatory games out of the way and the sun beginning to burn away the clouds, the three teams went back into battle again on Sunday.  While Sunday was more of a recreational rugby day, the intensity on the court was not.  The Kings were determined to stay undefeated and Crown was determined to go home with a win.  While the scores were not officially recorded, the results were the same.  The Kings once again went undefeated with victories over Crown and the Knights.  The Knights lost to the Kings but were victorious over Crown.  And Crown was unable to take home a win on Sunday.

At the end of this weekend the Northridge Kings took 1st place.  The Northridge Knights took 2nd and PossAbilities Crown took 3rd.

This tournament would not be possible without our great volunteers and generous sponsors including Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Disabled Sports & Fitness Foundation, Triumph Foundation, and the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department.
